Short Description / Purpose of Job
The purpose of this role is to ensure that support is effectively provided to the Central Processing Facility (CPF) operations and projects, ensuring management of environmental risks and compliance with EIA, EMP, licenses and permits requirements during execution of activities in the field in accordance with Environmental Game Plan.
Recruitment Description / Key Accountabilities
Provide specialist input and technical advice in the CPF operations and projects (Seismic acquisition, MERIC drilling campaign and construction) in all Sasol license areas;
Manage environmental risks and ensure compliance with EIA, EMP, license and legal requirements at CPF operations and during execution of projects;
Implement, track and monitor compliance with EMP requirements for operations and projects;
Ensure management of waste (hazardous and non-hazardous) generated at the CPF, drilling sites, seismic and construction projects;
Collaborate into obtaining and retaining relevant environmental licenses / authorizations;
Provide specialist input and support into reducing operations and projects environmental footprint and enhancing its environmental performance;
Provide specialist input and support in responsible resource utilization and the promotion of water and energy efficiency and the minimization of impact on other natural resources;
Monitor the rehabilitation progress of areas affected by Sasol's activities (as may be affected by seismic and drilling activities and associated bush-clearing and civil works);
Act upon findings from inspections, audits, assurances, environmental monitoring and assessments and take proactive measures to ensure SHE compliance;
Provide specialist input and support into emergency response procedures and ensure scenarios for environmental contamination are defined and tested regularly during emergency exercises;
Coordinate the Pande 4 (Blowout well) environmental monitoring including liaison with service provider;
Implementing, monitoring and reporting on the effectiveness and adequacy of critical controls;
Provide specialist input and support in the planning and management of the decommissioning or abandonment of assets and the remediation of the resulting SHE risks;
Ensure CPF, MERIC, Seismic internal and external environmental performance reports are prepared including submission to the Government;
Coordinate and implement all CPF environmental monitoring programs as per EMP requirements
Manage assigned environmental monitoring service providers contracts;
Support operations on the development and implementation of GHG emissions reduction initiatives;
Ensure that relevant stakeholders are involved, consulted and relevant information shared in a timely and transparent manner during project execution;
Manage, develop, coach and mentor Environmental Site Officers (ESO’s) allocated to the projects, including performance assessment.
Formal Education
University bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, biology or other related field.
